The genus name derives from the Greek lunch (spear Venable) and Karp (fruit), and refers to the fruit lanceolate.
The hardness and workability of these woods makes them have similar uses throughout its distribution in Central America. Traditionally, it had been used for yokes and axles of carts. Today, its main uses are those where you do not have to work too much wood, as in general construction and rustic, where the levels of finish carpentry and employees are not very high. Also be seen as firewood and for
stakes and fence posts.
It is usual to find such species as shade for coffee cultivation. L. rugosus provides excellent shade due to its wide crown, dense and rounded. You can also take advantage of the natural forest, and has been tested for recovery of degraded pastures and timber plantations to small.
Up to 500 meters and 700 meters in Belize in Chiapas (Mexico). Forest Species
