Tree 10 to 20 m high and 5 to 30 cm in diameter reaches 40 meters in height. Copa follage irregular and scattered. Trunk straight cylindrical, branched low. Bark brown or reddish outside, internally it is pink. Terminal twigs and scaly rough to the touch. Its growth is slow
The fruits are small and round with ripe red andalusia bittersweet and are scattered with birds and bats.

Leaves simple, alternate, 4 to 17 cm long and 2 to 9 cm wide, oblong to obovate, with apex acuminate or cuspidate, base rounded edges and integers. The leaves are green on the upperside and white or gray on the underside, rough to the touch due to the presence of scales lepidotas.

Stipules small and deciduous. Petioles 1 to 3 cm long, pulvinar at both ends and slightly grooved on top.
